Earlier this morning, Kensington Palace announced the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, sharing that the couple will marry in Spring 2018.

Harry and Meghan made their first public debut as an engaged couple at 2pm for a photo call in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace. Dressed in a blue suit, Harry held Meghan’s hand while she gave us a glimpse of the highly anticipated engagement ring.

When asked how he proposed by reporters, Harry replied: “That will come later.”
“Was it romantic?” another reporter asked.
“Of course it was” Harry said.
Asked when he knew Meghan was “the one”, he replied “the very first time” they met.
The couple later revealed that Harry proposed whilst they were roasting chicken in their home at Kensington Palace. They will marry at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on 19th May 2018.
From the first sighting, the ring appears to be a trilogy style featuring an elongated cushion cut centre diamond flanked with round diamonds. Keeping on trend, Harry has opted for a mixed metal ring, with white gold claws accentuating the bright nature of the diamonds. Harry revealed that the band is 18ct yellow gold as it’s Meghan’s favourite.
It could possibly be Welsh gold as is tradition for the British Royal family to use Welsh gold in their jewellery. The Duchess of Cambridge commissioned her wedding ring to be made in pure Welsh gold in 2011.
Mixing tradition with sentiment, a trilogy engagement ring is representative of the past, present and future. Markle’s design closely resembles our Destiny engagement ring design.
According to ITV’s royal editor, Chris Ship, Harry designed the ring himself, using three stones. The centre stone was sourced by the Prince himself from Botswana, where the couple shared their first holiday, while the two accent stones are from his mother’s personal collection.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the BBC, Harry explained that the two accent stones belonged to his mother “to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together”.

I estimate the centre elongated cushion cut diamond in Meghan’s ring to be around three carats and valued at around £65,000. It would be impossible to estimate the total value of the ring as the two side diamonds are from a private collection with historic provenance.

Following months of speculation, His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle announced their engagement after proposing in London earlier this month.
The Prince and his fiancee started dating in October 2016, but only made their public debut as a couple earlier this year at the Invictus Games in Toronto.
